The 2018/2019 Giving Season
Greetings from the Phoenix Ballet!
We are pleased to announce our 2018-2019 season! This year, we are producing three beautiful productions at the historic Orpheum Theatre including Slawomir Wozniak’s the Nutcracker, The Golden Swan Awards, and our Spring Repertory Performance. This season, the Phoenix Ballet will continue to bring exceptional opportunities and experiences for young student dancers to partner and perform alongside world acclaimed professionals. We are so excited to stage these beautiful productions for Arizona that will be live broadcast across the world and seen by over 300,000 people worldwide.
The Phoenix Ballet is the official company and youth company of the world-acclaimed Master Ballet Academy. Students from Master Ballet Academy include Madison Penney, age 14, winner of the 2017 Youth America Grand Prix; Tia Wenkman, 14, winner of the 2018 bronze medal at the Olympic styled USA International Ballet Competition and the 2018 Grand Prix winner at ADC International Ballet Competition; Tegan Chou, 11, winner of the 2018 Primary Grand Prix Award at the ADC International Ballet Competition; Basia Rhoden, 16, third place winner at the 2018 Youth America Grand Prix and one of only three contestants pre-selected for the 2019 prestigious Prix de Lausanne Ballet Competition.
Performances opportunities have provided numerous dancers in Arizona with amazing opportunities like: Jack Beckham, winner of the 2016 Varna Bulgaria International Ballet competition who now dances for the Tulsa Ballet, Gisele Bethea, winner of the 2014 USA International Ballet Competition, who danced at American Ballet Theatre; Satchel Tanner who now dances for Dutch National Ballet; Joel Dichter who won a four year scholarship at the Princess Grace Academy in Monaco; and Avery Gay, winner of the best junior dancer at the Dance Awards. These are just some of many who have gone on to pursue careers in dance.
This year, the Phoenix Ballet will be taking on an exciting fundraising campaign to help provide even more students with the opportunities to train and perform with us. We currently are planning to raise $180,000 in scholarship funds and an additional $120,000 to produce our incredible season. These fundraising efforts will provide fantastic opportunities for young students to perform full-length ballets, build their resumes, and feel what it is like to work at a professional ballet company. This fundraising endeavor is Phoenix Ballet’s first step in our new five-year plan to make sure we continue to provide the best opportunities for ballet students in Arizona and continually make sure these talented young people will be on the world’s stage. The Phoenix Ballet has toured China and Poland, has been live broadcast via Dance Magazine, Dance Spirit Magazine, A Ballet Education, and Pointe Magazine.
