It is that time of the year again!!!
Nutcracker is upon us! We would like to welcome you to the Phoenix Ballet’s Nutcracker production. Hopefully, in this packet you will find everything you need to know for this year’s production of the Nutcracker. In this packet you will you find the tentative rehearsal schedule; volunteer form; T-Shirt order form; Secret Snowflake; dressing room rules, and tips and tricks to survive Nutcracker Season. If you have participated in the past or have watched the show, you already know the next weeks culminates in a performance of unsurpassed originality and breathtaking beauty. The most frequent feedback response is that the show is better than that of professional companies. When you see the performance it’s hard to imagine the average age of the student dancers is just eleven! By the time the curtain falls you will see not only how much your child has grown as a dancer, but also how he or she has grown as a confident more mature young person.
PART I | AUDITIONS, PARTICIPATION CONTRACTS, and CASTING
On the day of auditions, students will fill out a registration form. The form will include measurements for costuming. After the auditions you will be handed the participation contract. This contract outlines what is expected of your child, and the fees associated with the production. The deadline to turn in the participation contract is on the Nutcracker Calendar in this packet. Casting will be announced on the day of the calendar via the Phoenix Ballet website, which will be used for all updates in rehearsals and casting. (www.PhoenixBallet.org/Reherasals)
Casting is how you will identify when your rehearsals are.
PART II | THE REHEARSAL PROCESS
Rehearsals are long and a lot of hard work. As we get closer to tech week, the rehearsals will get longer and longer. We hope to accommodate all of the young dancers, and hope to minimize their “downtime” in rehearsals. Rehearsals help us prepare dancers for the roles in which they are cast. As rehearsals progress, casting will constantly change, and that might include the roles in which they are cast. This is part of any professional ballet company, as it helps challenge and nurture dancers to help them find the right role/fit/experience within the production. Dancers may miss two scheduled rehearsals with notice in advance. After two rehearsals, the director my choose to recast. If you are sick, please submit a doctors note.
A Fun Activity to participate in during the Nutcracker Rehearsal Process is our Secret Snowflake Program!
We are excited to again have the Secret Snowflake program for our 11 & 12 year olds participating in Nutcracker. This is a great way to keep the process fun during the hectic season!
What is Secret Snowflake?
Secret Snowflake is a version of “Secret Santa” to help kids get through the Nutcracker rehearsal process. Students may leave notes of encouragement, or small gifts of candy, suckers or cookies. You can check your Secret Snowflake’s information sheet for things he/she likes. One bigger gift should be included, and she be given _______. Please limit the gift to $15.
Remember, this is a Secret Snowflake. Let’s see how many of you can keep your secret until the cast party!!! Have fun!!!
To participate in the Secret Snowflake program, please make sure you fill out the Secret Snowflake Card at registration. You will be assigned your Secret Snowflake via envelope with another students card.
